Our children have many teachers throughout their lives. Some
that teach manners and others that teach math. From parents and grandparents to
siblings, friends and teachers; later our children become these very teachers
that once taught them all of the important things in life that lead to the people
they become as adults. I am fortunate to have been the teacher in many
children’s lives as reading tutor, preschool teacher, friend, Auntie and most
recently, mother.
I've loved kids even when I was one. I found every
opportunity to teach as I grew older. In high school I was a Sunday school
teacher and a tutor for my peers. I also began working at a home childcare in preparation
for college where I studied Special Education and Early Childhood Development.
While attending college I worked as a reading tutor and taught 2nd
and 3rd grade summer school. I joined the Primrose team in 2003
where I worked as an Early Preschool teacher. I fell in love with Primrose curriculum and later moved into my current role as Curriculum Director. I've had the privilege the last seven years to work as the Curriculum Director for
Primrose Schools of Thornton, Stapleton and Reunion. I love that the Primrose curriculum educates our children as a whole; including a character development
program, music, physical fitness and academics.
Four years ago I began a relationship with a very special
girl, Melanie. She is now my adopted daughter, soon to be 10 years old. She has
taught me so much and has prepared me for motherhood for another special little
man that arrived 3 months ago. My son, Alex was born in September. I am proud to be mother and teacher to these
two beautiful children! My husband also brought me into another role as Auntie
with his very large family. I currently have 13 nieces and nephews and one on
the way!
Someone once said, “It
takes a whole village to raise a child”. I couldn't agree more with that statement.
Children learn from everyone around them and it is our responsibility to make
sure we are providing them with the best information and environment we can. Teacher
is an important role, and one that takes a lot of time and patience. My hope is that this blog will be another
tool to partner with you, teachers of children, to bring a sense of balance to
families as they nurture, encourage and promote the educational, emotional and
psychological readiness of the whole child.
Look for next week's blogs "Teaching Generosity this Holiday Season" and some great home fun projects to do with your kids!
Thank you for your insights! I am a strong believer that it truly “takes a village”! Parents are children’s first teachers, and Schools that embrace this by partnering with families are the most successful in providing high-quality educational experiences for children. I am looking forward to your upcoming Blogs!
