Friday Home Fun- Excuses Celebrating!

Even though the holidays are over, you can still find fun excuses to celebrate! Every day of the month is designated to celebrate something different, so let’s continue the fun with these wacky holidays!

Friday is Opposite Day! Celebrate with these fun opposite activities!
Dress Opposite
Wear your shirt and pants backwards! Put your shoes on the opposite feet! Make your ponytail in the front instead of the back or your Mohawk side to side instead of front to back!
Opposite Mealtimes
Have lunch for breakfast, dinner for lunch and breakfast for dinner!  Make it a harder challenge by trying to eat and drink with the opposite hand!
Opposite Names
Today call mom and dad by kids names and call the kids Mom and Dad! Really get into opposite day by having mom and dad do the kid chores and the kids do the parent chores.
Opposite Collage
Items Needed:
-poster board
- multi colored construction paper and or tissue paper
-glue
Create a beautiful opposite collage by separating the paper into light and dark piles. Tear them up in many different shapes. Glue the dark colors to one side of the poster board and the light colors to the other side. This will make a beautiful abstract piece of art that you can display in the house to remind you of the fun you had on Opposite Day!

Saturday is Australia Day! Here are some fun facts about Australia and some great crafts to learn about the Land Down Under!
-  In Australia they call cotton candy Fairy Floss
-There are more sheep in Australia than people!
- If you look up at the stars at night, more than likely you’ll be able to see over 5,500 stars in the sky!
-Bubble gum is called chewies in the Land Down Under.
-To order a soda at a restaurant, you must ask for chewie water.
-To tell someone “See you around”, you would say “ See you in soup”.

Boomerang Craft:
Items needed:
-brown poster board, cardboard or card stock
-markers, pipe cleaners and other decoration items.

Cut a piece of cardboard or other stiff paper into the shape of a boomerang. Decorate it in whatever way you’d like to make your boomerang look like an authentic Australian Boomerang!  Take it out in the back yard and try it out!  Toss is straight out in front of you and it should come flying right back to you!

Kangaroo and Little Joey Craft:
Items needed:
-paper lunch bag
-Pink, brown construction paper
-Google eyes
-Black pom pom
-glue

Start by cutting out two long pointed oval shapes from brown construction paper. Cut the same shape but a bit smaller from the pink construction paper. Glue the pink ovals on top of the brown ovals making the ears for the kangaroo. Glue these to the back and top of the paper bag puppet.  Next, cut arm shapes from the brown construction paper and glue one to each side of the bag. The next shapes you will need to cut will be to long oval shapes from the brown construction paper. Glue these to the bottom of your bag to great the great big hopping legs. Create the kangaroo’s nose with the black pom pom and place the google eyes on the bag as well.  Finally you will need to make the kangaroo pouch. Cut out a half circle and glue it to the belly of your kangaroo with the flat side up. Glue only the sides and bottom to the front of the kangaroo to leave the top of the pouch open. Don’t forget to add the Joey (baby kangaroo)! Create the Joey with the leftover pieces of brown and pink construction paper to make him look like a smaller version of his mama!
