Friday Home Fun- New Year's Projects

New Year’s Book
Create a fun book to tell stories about your favorite things you did in 2013! To end the book, draw pictures and write stories of things you predict to happen in 2014. These make great keepsakes for mom and are so much fun to look back on at the next New Year celebrations to see if your predictions were right!
Things you will need:
-          - Construction paper
-         -  Craft items: markers, colored pencils, crayons, glitter, glue, stickers, pictures, etc.
-         -  Hole Punch
-          - String or Yarn
How it’s made:
Depending on how many pages you would like, choose multicolored construction paper and place them in a stack. Fold them in half and make three hole punches near the fold. One at the top, one in the middle and one at the bottom. Cut three small pieces of string or yarn and tie it through the holes. Title the book on the front page. Draw pictures, decorate the pages and or write stories about what you did in 2012. Save the last couple of pages for your predictions for 2013!

New Year’s Resolution Magnets:
Turn your New Year’s resolutions into a magnet to be placed on the fridge as a daily reminder.

Things you will need:
-          - Construction paper
-         -  Crayons
-         -  Marker
-          - Glue
-          - Scissors
-        -   Magnetic strip
-          - Contact paper

How it’s made:
Cut a piece of construction paper in half. Write your New Year’s resolution across the top with a marker. Draw a picture of your resolution on the bottom of your paper. Next, laminate your New Year’s resolution picture. On the back of your picture glue the magnetic strip to the top and bottom of your page. When the glue has dried, hang your New Year’s Resolution on the fridge!

2013-2014 Time Capsule
Create a fun time capsule to bury in your yard or place in the top of closet to be opened several years in the future!
Things you will need:
-         -  Pringles Chip canister, spaghetti jar, or other type of container with a lid
-          - Glue
-          - Construction paper
-         -  Filler items (money, pictures, cards, concert/play programs, ticket stubs, Newspaper clippings. Anything       that has meaning to your family. All items you don’t want to part with, simply take a picture of the item to be placed in the capsule.
-         -  Decoration items ( beads, glitter, pompoms, feathers, stickers, etc.)
 How it’s made:
Wrap the time capsule container in construction paper and firmly glue it to the canister. Write the year, family name, etc. on the outside of the container and decorate it with your choice of embellishments.  Fill the capsule with any items that have meaning to your family and that you might want to look back on years later. Once the container is filled, glue the top shut and write on the lid the year the capsule is to be opened. If you are going to keep the canister, place it somewhere up and out of site until the year you've decided to open it. If you have chosen to bury it, place it in a large zip lock bag first.

Resolution Wreath
Making a New Year’s resolution wreath is a great way to put all of your resolutions in one place and make it visible to remind you every day of the goals you've set for the year.
Things you will need:
-          - Construction paper
-         -  Markers/Pens
-        -  Glue
How it’s made:
Cut out a circle of your choice of construction paper. Write ‘My Resolutions by…’ in the center of the circle. Next for every resolution you have, trace and cut out the shape of your hand. Make it a family wreath by having a hand shape for each member of the family. Write your resolutions on each of the hand prints. Finally, glue the hand prints all around the circle by the fingers to form a wreath connected to the circle piece of paper. Hang your wreath on the wall as a reminder for everyone to stick to their New Year’s Resolutions.
